InfoPath SharePoint Error Fix For Data Appears in IE 9 or IE 10 as Raw XML

by on May 8, 2014

This may also work for Audit Report excel.sheet and other XML mapping errors. We just need to fix Microsoft Office so the xml documents are mapped to the proper Office application again based on progid values. Repairing Office (whatever version) should fix it. I have seen this happen in Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10. In both cases Solution 1 worked, though MS and others point to Solution 2 working.

IE Shows XML Error :

<?xml version=”1.0” encoding=”utf-8” ?>

progid=InfoPath.Document

progid=excel.sheet

Solution 1: Repair Microsoft Office

1. Start button (lower left of Windows Desktop) > type “add remove program” click on add or remove program

2. Find “Microsoft office” > right click > change clip_image002

3. In the popup, select repair > continue

clip_image004

4. Wait for it to finish > test (restart and test again if it is not fixed)

Solution 2: Manually edit the registry

  1. start > type regedit > open regedit.exe
  2. Right click Excel.sheet
  3. New > Dword
    • Name: BrowserFlags
    • Type: Reg_DWord
    • Data: type in “8”

I also added BrowserFlags key, as I was not entirely sure where it should go, the documentation is not entirely clear ^_^

excel.sheet.5 requires a different setting of “9” – see read more
