Allow Rich Text in an Item Style for SharePoint 2010

by on October 23, 2011

Copy the item style, never edit the original. I also make a backup of the original itemstyle.xsl file.

By disabling output escaping (i.e. escaping characters passed to the CQWP so they appear as normal text items and not as code items) you can have rich text such as links, images, etc. show up in item styles when entered in Rich Text areas.

NOTE: Use this in only limited situation – users who abuse rich text in Calendars for example, can throw off the whole layout of landing pages, etc. The content is only as good as the skills of the user entering it.

<xsl:value-of select="@Description" disable-output-escaping="yes" />
