Error with $SPUrl Tokens

by on October 4, 2011

The expression prefix ‘SPUrl’ was not recognized.  Please correct the prefix or register the prefix in the <expressionBuilders> section of configuration.

This error appears when you are using Foundation 2010 (or it’s 2007 version, WSS).

Example:

<SharePoint:CssRegistration name"<% $SPUrl:~sitecollection/Style Library/sitename/style.css %>" After="corev4.css" runat="server"/>

Although Microsoft recommends it’s use for site collection wide styles, etc., it has apparently been intentionally blocked from use in these “limited” versions. There may have been some updates which killed these, as they seem to have worked in the past. SharePoint Standard and Enterprise appear to register these without issue.

If you have additional information, please post.

  1. Hi Emerson.
You probably know this by now, but the $SPUrl is part of the publishing features that is only available in SharePoint Server, thats why it can’t be used in Foundation. There are other ways to achieve the same goal though…

    • Actually, I did not realize $SPUrl was linked to the Publishing feature set.

If you know of a way to replicate this (easily) could you post the steps?

      Thanks for your input!

  2. I’m getting some of the details replicated and explained here:

It will be a few posts on the topic…seems that branding is another area left out on Foundation 🙂
