What are SharePoint 2010 Workspaces?

by on August 23, 2010

A Workspace is a specific type of site template which includes certain web parts, lists, & libraries that can be helpful in projects, events, meetings, etc. You can add web parts, pages, or anything else you might want to the site template you choose – the template is not restrictive!

You select which type of workspace you want when you create a new site for the workspace.

Create a workspace: Site Actions > New Site > select a Workspace site template. (see Outlook 2010 & SharePoint 2010 Integration for more complex uses of the SharePoint 2010 Workspace)

There are six templates for Meeting Workspace sites:

Document Workspace (under Collaboration not the Meeting category):

  • On Page – Announcements, Shared Documents, Tasks, Members (site members and online status), Links
  • On Left Menu – Libraries, Lists, Calendar, Discussion & Team Discussion sub-item

Basic Meeting Workspace:

  • On Page – Objectives, Attendees (those planning to attend), Agenda, Document Library
  • On Left Menu – no left menu

Blank Meeting Workspace:

  • On Left Menu – no left menu

Decision Meeting Workspace:
